On a happy note -- I wanted to share this make-do that I purchased off of EBAY, for some reason I just had to have her, so I bought her and she arrived yesterday. I just love her. She is currently residing on the old wooden ironing board in my sewing room.
Hubby and I got up early and headed to Crystal River, where they were having the Manatee Craft Festival. We had never been to Crystal River, so thought we'd go. The craft show was disappointing, very commercial, only had a handful of good booths. Hubby found another pottery piece and I found some bobbins, I paid $2.00 for 6 of these.
We took one of their boat tours, there are 100's of manatees in their waterways. So tourism is very big in this area and with the show going on, lots and lots of people.
This is picture of 2 baby manatees, this is one of the few places that it is legal to swim with them, supposedly they love people and love to play with the humans, hubby and son are planning a trip back soon to swim with them. Manatees only give birth once, which is something I didn't know.
More manatees, the light areas are the manatees, they stay under water for 15 to 20 minutes, so you very seldom see them come up for air
Notice the vultures--they have a roost in the tree next to the house and hang out on the house, in the yard, etc.
My favorite booth, lots of vintage spools, crates, etc.
I got a few new things finished this week, a mama cat make-do on a wooden bobbin.
And another of my favorites, the Americana Raggedy Bagholder.
Hope everyone has a great Sunday, take care, Cyndy
Hi Cyndy-
ReplyDeleteenjoyed reading your post and seeing the pictures. Love the new doll and your new Momma kitty!
My MIL lived near Gainesville, in Old Town FL several years back. When we visited we went to Manatee Hot Springs and watched them. We had fun watching them. Went on a boat ride with one of her neighbors, I was in awe of all the "spanish moss" hanging from the trees! She used to send it to my by the box full. Anyway, your pics brought back memories of good times.
Your new bobbins are awesome.
Take care,
Sheila

ReplyDeleteMy sister and I swam with the manatees there several years ago, and one of the babies hooked himself under my flippers and swam with me for a little bit, then bobbed over to my face and made little squeaky noises. Amazing! (always thought it said volumes about my body type, though, that a manatee would think I was its mama, lol!)
ReplyDeleteI love the doll you purchased. When we used to take the boat to the islands(when I lived in FL) We used to see the sea cows manatees I know they are supposed to be gentle giants but I would not want to swim with them.Warm Blessings!~Amy
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a lovely day Cyndy! I used to live in the Tampa/St. Pete area & have been to Crystal River but that was ages ago. Looks like they had a great craft sale! Those spools were a real find! Your doll is adorable : ) Blessings, Shirlee
ReplyDeleteI love your posts, Cyndy. Thanks for putting the link on FB.
ReplyDeleteAre we making an Easter village out of clay pots at the library?
Love that mama kitty & the sunflower doll! Manatees seem so gentle - so sad what the boat propellers do to them. What a deal on the bobbins! Have a great week ~*~Lisa
ReplyDeleteI'd LOVE to swim with the Manatees 'One of these Days'!! I would've been all over that vintage booth with those spools and crates!! Looking forward to the show in Mt. Dora in March. Love your new looks!

ReplyDeletehumans. You did manage to get some nice goodies.

Wow - how magical to be able to swim with manatees. Guess, though, I would need to be able to swim first, huh? ;o) Love the little make-do you bought - she so sweet! But my true love of this post is that mamma kitty and babies you made. She is absolutely PRECIOUS!! Great, now I have kitty envy! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
ReplyDeleteHI CINDY . YOUR MAMA CAT AND RAGGEDY BAG HOLDER ARE SO CUTE.
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S REALLY A NICE PLACE TO SPEND THE DAY .
THE SUNFLOWER DOLL IS ALSO ADORABLE.
GOD BLESS YOU. HUGS
Hi Cyndy,
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fun trip! I would love to live near water again but I guess the mountains will have to be my home for awhile!
Your prim doll is fabulous!
Enjoy your day,
Barb
I can't believe you got all those bobbins for $6! I am always on the lookout for those and never find them that cheap around here!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun boat ride! I would love to see the manatees. It would be fun to swim with them, but they seem rather large. I'm afraid that I'd be scared once I got in the water that one would smash me, hehe.
Uhm yes... that would be my favorite booth too!! I would go crazy in there with all the bobbins.
Cyndy, your handmades are adorable!! You are so talented girl! Wishing you a productive week of creating and crafting~
